Organization Description:
The Penticton and Area Access Centre (The Access Centre) has its origins in the Penticton and Area Women’s Centre (PAWC). The Penticton and Area Women’s Centre was formed over 30 years ago when the BC Provincial Government had a Ministry of Women’s Equality. This ministry, as well as the federal Status of Women, provided core funding that allowed PAWC to network with other nonprofits in Penticton to promote equality and educate them on issues that impacted women. To this end, PAWC focused on women centred events such as International Women’s Day and Take Back the Night. PAWC also provided a safe place for women to meet, share their concerns, and find out about resources in the community.

As the requirements for funding changed, and the needs of the community deepened, PAWC became The Access Centre, serving both women and men in our community. We are an inclusive, safe place for people to come to be helped in various capacities. We have a legal advocacy program, a disability advocacy program, a resource and referral program, and a free income tax centre (CVITP). Our goals are to help people facing multiple barriers and poverty issues, so that they can move forward in their lives.
